What Do You Think about the Death of Bin Laden?

With the news that Osama bin Laden was killed late last night, is it time to celebrate?

Last night, President Obama revealed how a U.S. operation, launched eight months ago, ended in a firefight that killed the most wanted man in the world, Osama bin Laden.

U.S. intelligence led a small team to Abbottabad, Pakistan, where they killed Bin Laden and took possession of his body, the President said. That happened last week.

This morning, the mother of World Trade Center victim Bill Sugra is happy Osama bin Laden is dead, according to a report early this morning on lehighvalleylive.com.

"I’m totally happy, I guess," El Sugra, of Salisbury Township, said in the report. "It’s a horrible thing to say. But we’re happy that he’s dead."

The Sugras' son, who was 30 when he was killed, worked at Cantor Fitzgerald Securities in the World Trade Center. On Salisbury Patch, the Sugra's said they found some solace in Bin Laden's death.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, a member of the Appropriations Committee on Homeland Security, issued a statement today calling Bin Laden's death "a major victory in the global war on terror.

"I am extremely proud of our military and intelligence communities, whose unswerving determination and perseverance led to this important achievement," he wrote in the statement.

He cautioned, however, that Bin Laden's death does not signal an end to the war on terror.

State Sen. Bob Mensch said the death of Bin Laden gave the country "a deep feeling of closure and relief."

"The events of 9-11 will remain a part of us and has changed our lives and our society forever," he said in a statement. "There is a feeling of justice and satisfaction with the elimination of the mastermind of those terrorist attacks; and, there is also a reiteration of our national resolve to hunt down and prosecute to the fullest degree those who would perpetrate and promote violence against innocent victims.”

After 10 years on the run, the death of Osama Bin Laden has caused a national celebration this morning. What do you think? How will you explain the killing to your young children? What does this mean for the world? For you?

It is a great day for Americans, especially those who lost wives, husbands, children and friends on 9-11.

This event also reminds us that while we have different political opinions, we are all Americans, united by a pursuit of decency, safety, and freedom. I credit our commander in chief and most especially our troops for this wonderful accomplishment as well as what they do every day to keep us safe and to preserve our freedoms and way of life.

While I am happy that OBL is gone, I am also sad as I remember my friends who died on that horrible day in September.

It has been stated that President Obama was determined to find Bin Laden and end his days. That has now been accomplished and justice served for those many innocent people who lost their lives nearly 10 years ago. The families of the victims will hopefully feel some closure to the painful losses they suffered.
I hope that this event helps to unite Americans and bring the discourse in all aspects of our daily life (particularly in the media) to a more civil and respectful tone.

I find a ton of the information sketchy, I wonder if much of the info they are feeding us is true, I can't believe after all this person did to the USA that our military would find it appropriate to show this man a proper burial, it just all does not jive.......something is off, this man deserved no respect from anyone.

I really don't understand that Osama Bin Laden ever existed. Why now? It is good to know that "if he ever existed" he is dead. But what now should be the question!!!

What do you mean "that Osama Bin Laden ever existed?" Of course he did. Who do you think was holding up that unkempt beard? And the question now should be: Has the west coast offense destroyed east coast teams, or have east coast teams destroyed the west coast offense?

Is it really that impressive to have found Bin Laden in 10 years? I don't know. In that same time span I've found Waldo three, count them, three times. So there.

And now the birthers are coming on various threads to question Obama's assertion that Bin Laden is in fact dead. I wrote it before and I'll write it again: How many birthers does it take to screw in a light bulb? It doesn't matter. They'll never believe it was screwed in.

To those people, living in La La Land, believe that Bin Laden is not dead also believe that the lunar landing was faked, Elvis is living as a doorman in Vegas, and the earth is flat.

I find the levity about this situation disturbing. How easy we forget the loss of lives. I didn't loose anyone on 9/11 but was a nurse downtown. So many lives were crushed that day by the plans made by this evil man. It is hard to celebrate a death when you are a healthcare worker. I am glad that he is gone but I fear the next fanatic that will come. Looking into the eyes of loved ones, both young and old, who were trying to find family members will always be a part of that horrible day for me. The sight and smell of burnt flesh is another haunting memory. Sorry I will never be able to joke after participating in the horrors of 9/11 and I suggest that many of you reflect and thank god you weren't there and your family is intact.

Bin Laden dead? OK....but dont think for a minute that there are not 200 Bin Ladens waiting to take his place. Celebrate if you need to but I will break out the party hats when American soldiers stop being killed and terrorism is wiped off the face of the Earth. Keep your eyes on the horizon...this country will always need to be in a red state of awareness.
