Now that the Easton Area School Board seems to have finished eliminating staffing positions, the board is now revealing some of the names of those who won't be returning next year.

According to the Easton Express-Times, the school board at its meeting Tuesday night provided a list of names of some of the teachers who were cut two weeks ago and in May.

At a special meeting two weeks ago, the school board approved eliminating 17 teachers at Easton Area Middle School and an assistant principal.

At that time, the school board only announced positions, not names. It did, however, list the names of 41 paraprofessionals who were losing their jobs.

In May, the district shaved about 50 teaching jobs in an effort to reduce costs to help meet a budget deficit.

The cuts have been criticized by the teachers union president, who believes the union worked closely with the district in trying to resolve the spending gap.
