Five Things to Know About Fall

Fall started on Saturday. Now is the time to start thinking about apples, pumpkins, hayrides and ghosts and goblins.

Fall arrived Saturday, bringing with it thoughts of hot apple cider, cool October nights, colorful leaves and costumes for Halloween.

It's always nice to think about the Great Pumpkin again.

There are so many fall features to get us caught up in the spirit of the season -- from foliage to pumpkins to hayrides to Halloween.

So here's a special Five Things to Know for this week, offering some things you can do in Forks and Palmer townships to enjoy the season:

 1. Go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin

Starting in October, Klein Farms in Forks Township will offer hayrides to its pumpkin patch.

You can also visit the dairy and creamery to get some tasty treats such as yogurt and buy raw milk and assorted cheeses.

The farm is at 410 Klein Road.

For more information, call 610-253-8942 or visit www.Kleinfarms.com.

 2. Run Through a Corn Maze

Raub's Farm Market has a 14-acre corn maze with three mazes and a six-mile walking trail. There is a cost for adults and children and senior citizens.

Raub's also has apples, acorn, butternut and spaghetti squash, pumpkin pie, candy and caramel apples and Kathryn's pumpkin roll and pumpkin breads in its store.

Raub's is at 1459 Tatamy Road in Palmer Township. For more information, call 610-253-1419.

 3. Get your cider, apples, pumpkins, mums, etc.

The supermarkets are already stocked with fall items. You can have your choice of various apples without having to pick your own, grab a gallon of apple cider, pick a pumpkin and choose some mums to spruce up the entrance to your home.

Just visit the Weis and Giant on Sullivan Trail in Forks Township.

 4. Check out the fall foliage

There's nothing as breathtaking a sight as seeing all of the colorful leaves.

A short trip up to the Poconos in Stroudsburg or the Delaware Water Gap National Park is only a half-hour to 45 minutes away.

 5. Get your Halloween costume and candy

There are plenty of places to shop in the Palmer Park Mall and some of the stores on Route 248 in Lower Nazareth like Target, Kohl's and Wal-Mart.
