"It was a huge success," Dorney informed township officials at a recent Board of Supervisors meeting.
The June event at Forks Community Park drew 123 youths, the chief said, and 77 new bike helmets were handed out.
"We hope to have much better-educated and safer youths now," Dorney said.
The event had children pedaling on their bikes through an obstacle course, getting fitted for new bike helmets and receiving certificates for a job well done.
Children and parents also received a Pennsylvania Bicycle Driver's Manual, a Forks Township Police Department Activity Coloring Book, a handout on bike helmet usage and a state guide on bike safety.
The police department kicks off its annual Summer Youth Academy on Monday. The academy runs through Friday. There are no free spots left.
