How long at job? A total of eight years -- five as Fire Administrator, then the title was changed to Fire Commissioner. I've been in that capacity for three years now.
Where do you work? At Fire Station 1 of the Palmer Township Municipal Fire Department.
About your job: Being fire commissioner is the same as being a fire chief. In Palmer, the fire commissioner is not elected but appointed by the township supervisors. It is the only paid position in the fire department. Everyone else are volunteers. I report to the township manager.
I respond to and command all fire calls in the township. I am also responsible for the fire department budget, handle administrative duties and purchase and maintain equipment.
What do you like best about your job? The satisfaction of helping people at the worse possible time in their lives and doing it properly.
