Palmer Community Pool Needs Overhaul
The Palmer Township Board of Supervisors would like to upgrade the Palmer Community Pool.
The Palmer Township Community Pool is in need of an upgrade -- or more like it, an overhaul.
Palmer Township supervisors discussed the pool at their budget hearing last week, stating that for something built almost 50 years ago, the pool is hanging in there.
"The pool is on a Band-Aid," Supervisor Robert Smith said.
Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said "not only do we need to repair what's there, we need to add some features" at the pool.
But there's no room in the 2013 municipal budget for that. Maybe the following year, supervisors said.
"We all like it," Colver said. "The cost of running it is that we're breaking even. It's been there since the mid-60s."
Smith said that water parks are hurting the pool and that it needs water features for younger kids.
"What they have to offer and what we have to offer, that's it. I'm sorry it is," he said.
Colver said the cost to run the pool from the summer season of Memorial Day through Labor Day is $170,000.
