Palmer Police Catch Unlicensed Driver Leaving Accident
Wilson teen without a license tried to make an illegal left turn at the Southmont Mall in Bethlehem Township, court records say. Palmer Township police caught him.
Palmer Township Police caught a Wilson teenager who was allegedly driving without a license when he fled a three-car accident in Bethlehem Township on Saturday, according to court records.
Christian Vazquez, 19, of 2131 Northampton St. was stopped and allegedly was trying to make an illegal left turn into the Southmont Mall from an eastbound lane of Freemansburg Avenue when one car struck the rear end of the car behind him, which in turn struck his car, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
But instead of waiting, Vazquez drove off east, but he did not get far. A Palmer Township officer was driving in the opposite direction and watched the accident unfold, court records say. The Palmer officer pursued Vazquez and caught him several miles away.
When he was caught, Vazquez told officers that he did not want to block traffic so he kept moving, the warrant says.
Vazquez was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, leaving the scene of an accident without a driver’s license and other motor vehicle violations. He was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail following an arraignment before night duty District Judge Nancy Matos-Gonzalez.
