On Nov. 15, the Business, Industrial and Professional Association of Palmer Township (BIP) held its 36th Annual Civic Trust Awards Dinner.
The event recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses who have done special things that have made Palmer a wonderful place to work, live and play.
This year's awards went to the following:
- The Civic Trust Award is the highest tribute that the association can pay to a business within township boundaries that has made significant physical improvements to its property that in turn makes an outstanding contribution to the business climate of the township. The award went to Finegan Funeral Home, Nicholas Street Professional Center and Brown-Daub KIA.
- The Community Service Award recognizes individuals and/or organizations who by their services to others through their contribution to Palmer Township or the region distinguishes Palmer as a caring community. This award was presented to The Miracle League of Northampton County for building a regional baseball field for children with intellectual or physical disabilities.
- The Booster Award is presented for outstanding contributions to the Palmer Township community. It is given to the person who has exhibited outstanding service to others thus distinguishing Palmer Township through his/her contributions to fellow citizens, business community or political environment. This award was presented to Dave Colver, who exemplifies by his actions what this award stands for.
"The award came as a bit of a surprise," said Colver, chairman of the Palmer Township Board of Supervisors. Colver's construction company helped build the Miracle League field. "I've been a member for 20 years. It was a team effort. I'm just the leader."
Also during the awards ceremony, the BIP presented a check for $15,000 to the Miracle League of Northampton.
This, along with the same amount presented in 2011, brings the total contribution to $30,000.
