Police: Kohl's Shoplifter Had a Gun

After being caught for shoplifting by Kohl's loss prevention staff, Jabiel Tirado of Bethlehem admitted to having a handgun, according to police.

 

A Bethlehem man is in Northampton County Prison after he admitted to having a handgun -- which was unlicensed -- when he was detained by loss prevention staff at Kohl's Department Store for shoplifting, according to Colonial Regional Police.

On Jan. 9, police say, Jabiel Tirado, 23, of the 800 block of Ontario Street allegedly tried to steal $52 worth of jewelry from the Kohl's in Lower Nazareth Township.

When loss prevention staff brought Tirado to a back office, according to police, he admitted to having a handgun. The gun was then secured by Kohl's staff.

Tirado was arriagned before District Judge Joseph Barner and charged with retail theft and possession of a firearm without a license.

He was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
