Poll: What Safety Measure Do You Want at Schools?
Easton Area school officials and authorities are meeting to discuss school safety and security measures.
Armed Guards? Metal Detectors?
Those are some of the safety measures school officials and authorities are pondering for schools in the Easton Area School District.
Those decisions are being considered in the wake of the fatal Newtown, Ct., school shootings and a bomb scare at Easton Area Middle School this week.
School officials and police chiefs from Forks and Palmer Townships and Easton are expected to go over security measures this week and the Easton Area School Board is also expected to take up the topic at its meeting Tuesday night.
So what do you think is best?

I know this may not be the best time to think about another aspect of student safety, however I also believe this may be the perfect time. What I mean is, from an optimistic perspective, this is a great chance to analyze all aspects of student and faculty safety including those threats as posed by the weather. Being an alum of the Easton School District, I have seen recently and first hand the lack of preparedness all around for all types of emergencies especially for the weather. People seem to brush it off like nothing will every happen to them or how they feel invincible, but yet looking at what disasters have hit close to home in the last several years including Superstorm Sandy, major flooding from tropical storms in 2011, and also including numerous tornado warnings in Northampton County alone all raises eyebrows to me. What I'm saying is, there needs to be an all-hazards approach, at the very least a written plan to be implemented for any situation that everyone knows how to react in the same manner - like how if a fire alarm sounds people know what to do.

We have become a police state, so yes, let's go all the way with this security bit...I do expect a real, honest to god security, not one of those tic-tac "just-for-show" service...CAVEAT: Please have the militia take care of this, not any of the administrators...They have their hands full as it is...I also do not like to hear from taxpayers complain to see their school tax go up if we want this implemented...We want service?..Pay for it.
