The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation begins resurfacing sections of Route 248 tonight from Route 33 up to the area near Easton Area High School where Route 248 intersects with Northampton Street and turns into S. 25th Street.

The project was awarded to Eckman Inc. of Atglen, Chester County. The PennDOT contract requires the work be done during off-peak traffic times, which is 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Sunday.

In a press release, PennDOT says Eckman will attempt to limit the louder demolition work to before 1 a.m.

Route 248 will remain open for the duration of the project, though it will be down to single lanes during the day, and at night traffic will be controlled by flagmen.

The work will include milling the old pavement away, sawcutting, removing and replacing deficient concrete pavement. There will also be shoulder upgrades, new mountable media curbs, handicap ramp renovations and storm drainage improvements.

The project is expected to last from today, March 5, to Sept. 30.
