Is this for real or just an intergalactic joke?
Thousands of people are petitioning the Obama Administration to "secure resources and funding and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016."
The petition states that a "space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense."
The petitioners are closing in on their goal of 25,000 signatures by December 14.
In movies, the Death Star of "Star Wars" fame is a fictional moon-sized space station and super weapon, according to Wikipedia, which says it is capable of destroying a planet with a single destructive energy beam. YIKES!

By all means ! Let's continue to ignore our collapsing infrastructure here on earth and use all available resources to build a giant space ship that can travel into space, turn around and point a beam back to earth and blow our collective asses up. Maybe the facility that constructs this behemoth will be powered by natural gas. No wait. That's right, we have the gas but not the infrastructure .

I agree with Mark J. This is ridiculous to spend money like this. There is so much to say about what we could do with the resources to improve our quality of life here on Earth. The only people who I would think that this would make sense for are those who would get paid to build this gigantic waste of money. I am sick that people would be so ridiculous. Spend the $ for more solar, wind and hyrdo power so that we do not have to depend on our depleting energy resources.

So it appears that people on Upper Saucon Patch do not realize an internet "trolling" when they see one. It is kinda like when Mountain Dew had a contest to rename the product and "diabetes" won.
It isn't like the White House ACTUALLY cares about these petitions anyway.
