Tell Us: Who Should Lead Easton Area's Schools?

The Easton Area School Board is still searching for a new superintendent. What qualities do you think that person needs?

Only a handful of people showed up last week for Easton Area School Board member Frank Pintabone's constituent meeting.

And most of the time centered around Pintabone and Easton resident Curt Ehly debating the sale of the old Cottingham School.

But there was one interesting piece of news that came out of the meeting: When discussing the search for a new superintendent, Pintabone said that no one from the school district was in the running for the job.

The school district wants to have a new superintendent hired by April 20 to replace Susan McGinley. The board voted last year not to renew her contract.

Before that happens, we want to hear from you.

Should the board look within the district for a new superintendent? And no matter where they look, what should that person's priority be? Tell us in the comments section below.

The school district needs someone with an education background but more importantly the skills to run a corporation.

Anyone who accepts the position w/o having the clear written assurance of being able to quickly select his or her own team of director level staff and replace others is destined to fail in the long term.
Wonder what special goodies will be in any new contract--the current one sure has enough goodies --but that's not unique --lots of districts give their superintendents goodies not available to mere mortals. I don't fault "goodies" if there is solid performance --but we need to see whats tied to what.

You know what is so interesting to me, the best superintendent, that EASD had was Mr. Riker, and he left his job, why I do not know, but I do this, this female was overpaid, without a doubt! You meaning EASD are giving each other raises, and putting in a pool, clean that asbestos up, that is what you do, do not hire someone that is so prejudice, that he can't even put in the time to get involved with students, just likes to make racial remarks, word for sure, hire Mr Riker back, he was more than fair , but to this day, I can't figure out why I was terminated when Mr. Riker told me to come back to work the next day, oh never mind I know the answer, I know the truth and so does TC

While everyone has focused on blaming teachers , tossing teachers under the bus, and blaming teachers for state mismanagement of the pension plan, two killer problems have been left unaddressed --and they are tough problems..even if Easton finds Superman/woman to be superintendent...:
1. The rush by Washington and Harrisburg to keep packing more and more costly duties and responsibilities on a public school system for virtually every problem that could impact young people from age about 3 to 21 . Somewhere in that package" "teaching" is about to get lost?
2. A massive shift in some communities as to the practical tax revenue base that leaves fewer and fewer holding the bag for more and more --and "homeowners" may drown before the water levels go down!
a. Landlords just simply do not put in the same amount of taxes per dwelling unit as do homeowners , and there are more and more landlord operated properties.
b. We are still a second class community in that commuters to NY and telecommuters to NY pay NY for wage taxes and income taxes and do NOT pay here where they sleep or send their kids to school.
