The first year 250 yard long garden along the bike path behind Bar Don Lanes in Palmer is drawing rave reviews. Almost all walkers, runners, and bicyclers are amazed by the 42 taro - elephant ear plants. Google "taro" and see how big the leaves get and their history. Twenty two people have donated plants for the garden. The situation now is the approaching cold weather. The taro, cannas, and calla lilies are warm climate plants. They will die if left where they are now. Replanting them in the first half of May 2013 insures that their magnificence will bring a smile to our faces for another year. How is that going to happen? They must be dug out with shovels and stored in coolish basements before the ground freezes. When the plants are dug out there will be way to many for the 2013 garden. Anyone wanting some for their home gardens will not be turned down as long as a few remain for the Fairview Park Garden. Contact Dave at d.carr@rcn.com or 610.704.5868
