On April 5, Girl Scouts from Palmer and Forks led the Forks Township Supervisors meeting in a traditional Girl Scout Flag Ceremony to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts. Chairman Eric Chuss read the proclamation that designates 2012 as the “Year of the Girl.”(attached)
Santa came to Palmer Friday night escorted by more than half the Township Fire Department. Santa also brought Mrs. Claus and seven of their elfs to greet about 100 children at the Chrin Community Center While waiting for Santa, residents got to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Later, each child got to whisper their wish list into Santa's ear.
Pizza, Santa Claus, crafts and gifts were all part of a fun-filled evening at Paxinosa Elementary School Thursday evening. With nearly 600 members of the community in attendance, the “Pizza with Santa” party was held in two shifts to accommodate everyone. There was pizza for all, and children received small toys from Santa's elves after a visit with the man in red and white, as well as a choice of books to take home, courtesy of the Cops 'n' Kids reading program. Palmer Elementary third and fourth grade choruses showcased their vocal abilities in celebration of the holiday season. The 129-member chorus performed six selections Wednesday night under the guidance of vocal director Gail Hines. Some of the selections were "Celebrating Hanukkah," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Holiday Hand Jive."
This year may have been the muddiest and swampiest bonfire that Eastonians had seen in a few years; however, it wasn't enough to deter the diehard fans of Easton High School football on the night before the Easton/P'burg Thanksgiving game.
Bethlehem's Freedom High School Patriots started the football game off on the right foot getting on the board first with a touchdown early in the first quarter. The Patriots held the Easton Area High School Red Rovers scoreless in the quarter and entered the second quarter with a 7-0 lead. Momentum shifted to the Red Rovers in the second quarter. A combination of turnovers and intercepted passes by Freedom would take them out of the game until the final seconds of the half. Indoor and outdoor activities were featured Saturday at the 15th birthday celebration of The Crayola Factory at Two Rivers Landing on Easton's Centre Square. Indoor events included a birthday cake contest, storytelling and making birthday hats. Outdoor activities included skateboard demonstrations, bubble basking ballet and hoop dancing. The Crayola Factory opened on July 16, 1996.
The ArtsQuest campus was awash with people to celebrate the nation's birthday on July 4. The night included a rousing performane of classic tunes by the Allentown Symphony. Independence day went out with a bang as fireworks streamed through the sky over the SteelStacks.
"Annie Jr." is a pint-sized version of the Broadway musical based on the classic newspaper comic strip Annie. Tara Connolly sat in on the Easton Area Middle School's fifth and sixth grade drama club's production of the play Tuesday.
In a hitting battle between Easton and Nazareth, Nazareth came up the victor. The Blue Eagles took the game, 9-3. The winning pitcher was Drew Hercik, with Dan Shepherd relieving. Alex Lawson pitched for Easton, and tallied four strikeouts in three innings. Nick Beinlich relieved toward the end of the third inning. Nazareth had 9 hits to log 9 runs. Justin Pacchioli was 3 for 4 and drove in 3 runs. Freshman Luis Hernadez acted as catcher - usual Chase Bryant is out with an injury. Sunday night was full of warm weather, burgers and hot dogs on the grill; ice cream, and an extra umpire on the field. These were just some of the extras for baseball fans as Easton Area High School hosted Phillipsburg High School for the annual baseball game at Hackett Park. Parking was nearly unavailable by the time the two teams began playing due to the huge spectator turnout. Phillipsburg won the match 11-1. The night became historic as everyone returned home to news of a major development in the war on terror.
Easton Area High School's Junior Varsity Girls Soccer team played Nazareth High School Wednesday against the backdrop of a sunny, temperate day. The JV team is coached by Jacob Heck. The next home games for both JV and varsity teams are scheduled for April 30th.
