Go to the Palmer Towne Center in Palmer Township and you'll often see a familiar site: Storefront vacancies. There are several. And with a shopping center anchored by Giant Food Store, Marshall's and Home Depot, the empty storefronts are littered throughout the retail area. There are probably at least four. The Palmer Park Mall is looking a little emptier these days. The Go calendars, games and toys store, which opened in mid-Novemver right before the start of the holiday shopping season, is now closed. What stores would you like to see added to Palmer Park Mall? Tell us in the comments section below. The store arrived along with Books for Less after the mall reopened following four straight days due to power outages from Hurricane Sandy. The mall added a Spencer's late last year, too. It's one thing when you see a storefront sitting vacant. You see them sometimes in malls like the Palmer Park Mall and you wonder what happened to the previous owner and you contemplate what should fill the space. Then you see one in a strip mall like the Giant Food Store center on Sullivan Trail in Forks Township. There, they bookend all the other stores. But in the Weis Market shopping center on William Penn Highway in Palmer Township, it's even worse. There, two storefronts stand back to back. One has a faded sign of a former sports-type business and both are next to Chrissy's steak shop. …
In the mall business, some stores come and some stores go. Over the past few months at the Palmer Park Mall in Palmer Township, some new stores -- like a toy store, book store and Spencer's -- have opened, just in time for the holiday shopping season. But some shops -- like the American Gyro Cafe -- have also departed. Famous Footwear, across from the Fiat dealership near Bon-Ton, is now also among the casualties. They're like bookends. On each side of the Giant Shopping Center on Sullivan Trail in Forks Township are two vacant storefronts, both relatively the same size. While one was featured on Visions for Vacancies, the second is on the far right, near the wine and spirits store and Something Different. It used to house a tanning salon, the former Tanetics. The shopping center features the Giant food market, Something Different, a wine and spirits store, a Hallmark store, Just a Dream frozen yogurt, a dry cleaner and a nail salon along with a Chinese Restaurant, pizza place, Subway and H&R Block …
Good Mexican food is hard to find. And for more than a year, Palmer Township has been without some when Don Pablos went out of business. So what should fill the vacancy on 80 Kunkle Drive behind the Tic-Toc Diner and next to the Olive Garden. How about another Mexican eatery?
