Easton Celebrating "Food Day" Wednesday

Daylong programs aim to educate residents about healthy food.

Wednesday is "Food Day," a nationwide celebration of healthy and sustainable food."

In Easton, that will mean a day of activities in the West Ward aimed at educating residents on growing and cooking their own food.

The program is sponsored by the Kellyn Foundation, the Easton Weed and Seed Program, Easton Area Community Center, the West Ward Partnership, Lafayette College, Bechtold’s Orchard, Sodexo and Scott’s Miracle-Gro.

The day's events begin at 1 p.m. at Centennial Park, when Kellyn Foundation, West Ward Partnership and Lafayette interns will prepare the garden beds at Centennial Park for spring planting.

  • From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Easton Area Middle School students will add soil and mulch to the beds at Centennial Park.
  • 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Kellyn Foundation members' presentation on healthy cooking/eating at the Easton Area Community Center.
  • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Table displays by groups at the event.
  • 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Dinner prepared by the community center kitchen, with food provided by Sodexo and Bechtold's Orchard.
