Five Things to Know This Week

Palmer Supervisors return, hayrides start, Forks crunches numbers

Hi, I'm Dino Ciliberti, a long-time journalist and Forks Township resident, who has been filling in as editor of the Palmer-Forks Patch site for the past few weeks for Takesha Thomas, who suffered a death in her family.

If you've noticed, we've launched a new feature, a poll question, which we hope will be a regular, and possibly daily, presence on our website.

The first two poll questions focused on the end of summer and the arrival of fall.

Today's talks about a controversial topic: of deer and other wildlife in the Commonwealth on Sundays.

Please make sure you cast your vote. We'd love you to participate in our polls whenever we post them. You can include comments at the bottom as well.

Anyway, here are some things to think about -- and maybe go and do -- for the last week in September.

 1. Themeets for the first time in about a month. The agenda looks light but includes the appointment of some part-time police officers. The meeting takes place in the conference room of the library at 7 tonight.

2. has begun its budgeting process. According to Township Manager Richard Schnaedter, the heads of various municipal departments have started reviewing spending and are putting their plans together for the 2012 municipal budget.

3. In nearby Easton, the 2011 Easton Garlic Festival takes place this weekend with a new twist. The festival has been expanded to two days. Saturday's festivities will be held at Easton Centre Square from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. while Sunday's events will take place at Riverside Park from noon to 6 p.m.

4. Klein Farms Dairy and Creamery starts offering hayrides to its pumpkin patch this weekend. Hayrides are available from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The farm, which was recently featured on cable's "Cake Boss," is open seven days a week and located at 410 Klein Road.

5. College football finally kicks off Saturday at The Leopards play their first home game of the season against Harvard at 1 p.m., Oct. 1.  The team, which has a 1-3 record, played the first month of the season on the road.
