Forks Gathers to Honor Lewis Ogioba

Concert planned Saturday at Forks Community Center to remember teenager who died last August.

A benefit will be held in Forks Township Saturday night to pay tribute to Lewis Ogioba.

The Forks Township resident, who attended the Easton Area School District, died last August after falling ill while playing basketball.

Friends and family will remember Ogioba by celebrating what would have been his 16th birthday and by holding a concert at the Forks Township Community Center from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The event, which is free, includes children’s activities, free food, an open mic and music.

Lewis was a forward playing for both the Lehigh Valley AAU Challenge team and the Easton Area High School junior varsity basketball team. His dream was to become a professional player in the NBA and his role model was Miami Heat player LeBron James, according to a story in the Easton Express-Times.

His death last August drew hundreds of mourners to the Forks United Church of Christ in Stockertown.

According to the Express-Times, the family established the Lewis Osagie Ogioba Memorial Fund. Two $500 scholarships were given out May 29 to two Easton Area High School students who excelled in both academics and athletics.
