Forks Gears Up for Community Days

Annual event is being held this weekend.

It's a weekend of Forks fun.

The second weekend after Labor Day can only mean one thing -- that Forks Township Community Days has arrived. And this year features a whole bunch of brand-new attractions that promises to make the event the best one yet.

"It's become a staple in the township over the past few years," Supervisor Erik Chuss said.

The festivities take place Saturday from 11am to 9pm and Sunday, from 11am to 6pm at on Zucksville Road.

This year, a has been added along with a hot-air balloon launch. And, of course, fireworks will continue to excite the crowd on Saturday night.

Another change is the location.

The community days committee reports on its that the festival is shifting to the other side of the tennis courts at the park to allow space for more entertainment, vendors and attractions.

Chuss said that after Forks' successful 250th anniversary celebration in 2004, it was decided to host an annual event to tout the township.
These days, the festival provides local nonprofit organizations and businesses an opportunity to showcase themselves. Community Days is also actually a non-profit organization not affiliated with Forks Township.

But the township is on board in terms of ensuring that the festival will be a pleasant experience, said Chuss, who has served as supervisor for four years and has lived in the township for 20. He said the public works department does a wonderful job setting up the event and that police officers will be on hand throughout both days with the fire department and EMS on standby in case of emergencies.

This year's changes include:

  • Two entertainment stages: One for live music Saturday and Sunday featuring bands like Bellfry & Schubert, Davey and the Wave Runners, Inch and the Echoes and Wailing Waters featuring Tyler Grady from American Idol fame. The second stage, sponsored by Crayola, is for children’s acts and other family entertainment.
  • Free Tethered Hot-Air Balloon Rides sponsored by Unity Bank. Here's your chance to sample the thrill of balloon flying.
  • Wrist Band Amusement Rides – For a limited time, you can pay one price and ride as many of the available rides as you want for a specified time. Not all rides are included.
  • Balloon Launch – Saturday night come watch or be a passenger when several local balloon captains launch their balloons from the Community Park.
  • Beer and Wine Tent sponsored by the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township (BCAF) and Easton Area Chamber of Commerce (EACC). The drinking area will be enclosed with tables and chairs for your convenience. Food and other drinks as well as children are permitted in the enclosed seating area, but adult beverages cannot be taken out. Driver's licenses are required to be served.

"I think the beer tent is great," Chuss said. "Other communities have them. People enjoy it so why not provide it."

Don't forget about the festival favorites.

  • Fireworks Display Saturday night by Garden State Fireworks.
  • Car Show Sunday.
  • Hay Rides and thanks to the Forks Township Historical Society and on Sullivan Trail.
  • Train Display in the Community Center.

Chuss said he's looking forward to the festival.

"It's hard finding a weekend where there's nothing going on," he said. "I'll be there helping out."
