Lehigh Valley Rollergirls Welcome New Skaters

Meet the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls and see a demonstration of their skills in Schnecksville this evening.

The Lehigh Valley Rollergirls (LVRG) will hold a new skater orientation at the Independence Family Fun Center in Schnecksville at 7 tonight, Jan. 28.

According to Michele “Rose Beef” Dolgos, LVRG’s head coach, this will be an opportunity for prospective skaters to meet members of the team, hear what is expected of LVRG members, and learn the history of the league. There will also be demonstrations of the skills needed to pass the new skater tryout on Feb. 4.

“To qualify for our new skater 'Boot Camp,' skaters will have to, at minimum, be able to perform the following skills: skating while balancing on one leg, cross-over skating, one knee falls, plow stops, and they must be able to complete at least eight laps on a regulation roller derby track in under two minutes,” Rose Beef said.

Those who pass the Feb. 4 tryout will be invited to the new skater “Boot Camp” starting Feb. 11. This is an intense seven week course that will teach skaters the basics of roller derby and get them ready for their final assessment. After passing this assessment, skaters will have met the requirements for Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) play.

Independence Family Fun Center is located at 4345 Independence Dr., Schnecksville.
