Safe Harbor Regatta Coming to Penn Pump Park

Annual toy boat race helps Easton homeless shelter's crucial day program.

Safe Harbor's annual regatta returns Saturday to Penn Pump Park in Palmer Township.

There's going to be pony rides, a police K9 demonstration, and of course, 1,500 toy boats racing down the Bushkill Creek.

It's a day of fun, but it's also a crucial fundraiser for Safe Harbor, which is looking to earn money for its $54,000-a-year day program, which lost its county funding this year.

"I just couldn't imagine Safe Harbor without the day program," said Tyler Rogers, the shelter's executive director.

How does the day program help? Last year, for example, it provided over 45,000 meals to residents.

If you can't donate to the regatta, Rogers said the shelter could always use other donations.

"Anything you use in your home, magnify it by 34," he said.

The regatta runs from noon to 2 p.m. To donate to Safe Harbor, call 610-258-5540 or visit http://safeharboreaston.com/.
