Trick or Treat Moved Back to Oct. 26

Upper Macungie supervisors have a change of heart and move Trick or Treat back to the traditional Friday night before Halloween.

, at a special meeting Friday afternoon, moved Trick or Treat night back to Friday, Oct. 26 after being bombarded with e-mails and phone calls from irate parents.

Tradition is that Upper Macungie's Trick or Treat night is scheduled on the Friday night before Halloween, to coincide with the elementary school celebrations that afternoon.

But on Sept. 9, , which sent parents railing.

"We have received numerous phone calls and e-mails on this topic and it was overwhelming," said supervisor Kathy Rader. "We're going to move Trick or Treat back to the night it has been traditionally. There was no intent on the board's part. We've spent so much time on this over the past week."

Rader noted many municipalities, including Allentown and Bethlehem, are holding Trick or Treat festivities on Friday night.

"But we're not changing Christmas," deadpanned supervisor chair Edward Earley.

The vote was 2-1 with Rader and Earley in favor and Sam Ashmar voting against.

The handful of parents at the meeting seemed pleased with the decision.

"It's been this way for many years and the fact that it was changed with short notice -- it would have been nice for the public to know," said Phil Wagner of Breinigsville.

"It was a lack of communication," said Christine Duborg of Orefield. "The last-minute justification didn't seem right. The school night is a big concern."

"I didn't like the change without advance notice," said Laura McBrearty of Upper Macungie. "There are a lot of sports practices during the week and people come from out of town to see the kids dressed up."

Upper Macungie's Trick or Treat night is Oct. 26 from 6 to 8.

.Is Thanksgiving on the same day every year?? How about Easter??? Let's discuss the Presidents' Birthdays. Do we celebrate them when they really were born? Leave Trick Or Treat on the same day every year. Also, if children are vandalizing your home because you don't have your light on they don't deserve any treats to begin with. Don't reward them so they don't destroy your property.

Referring to the date of Thanksgiving not the day of the week.

Hope you enjoyed your Halloween. The parents of the boy killed last night didn't.

Hope you enjoyed your WIN. Maybe now that someone died you can realize why Friday night stinks. Great for parties and people to be out on the road...not for kids who are actually trick or treating.
