Business of the Week: Omnivent Production Services

Bringing New York-style event production to Lehigh Valley.

When we think of New York-style events, we think bright lights, big sound, and an almost ethereal essence. We think of a type of mood found on the red carpet, or at fashion shows, normally only seen on television. And that’s exactly what Omnivent Production Services is offering.

Omnivent is a newcomer to the Lehigh Valley and at face value is an event production company. Owner Doug Mackie wants to clarify that.

“We are the preeminent gala design guys," said Mackie. "What we like to do, more than anything, is create atmosphere. There’s nothing more boring than going to an event in a plain old room.”

Omnivent touts itself as a full-service stage lighting and professional audio/video provider for corporate and gala events, including weddings. They cover clients big and small, whether it be a private event or a concert.

Mackie worked as a New York production designer for 20 years. He has designed events for several big-name foundations, acts and corporations, names like Yahoo!, Google, Verizon, Chris Cornell, Bruce Springsteen, the Clintons, and many more.

Six years ago, he and his wife relocated from New York to Palmer Township. Mackie plays guitar in a popular cover band called UUU, and wanted to live in a place that made it easier to get to gigs. On the side, he is also involved in children’s music, with the help of his 6-year-old son.

Omnivent as a company was founded in January of this year, although it’s been a project of Mackie’s for a while. He looked around the area and felt like there could be a need for what he could offer.

“If you want to have a wedding in, say, a firehouse, that’s fine,” he said. “But wouldn’t you want that firehouse to be transformed into a fantasy? That’s a woman’s most important day, it should look and feel how she feels.”

Omnivent not only does all types of lighting, but also works in audio and video, and softgoods, which are design aspects like drapes, curtains (electric and regular), and other aesthetics that help elevate the mood.

Mackie was taught design at a young age, and through his connections he is able to acquire just about anything necessary for an event, if he doesn’t already have it in his fully-stocked warehouse.

“We cover all aspects of production,” said Mackie. “I started in Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theatre… if I don’t have it, I know where to get it.”

Omnivent generally works within a 100-mile radius of its Palmer headquarters, which covers Philadelphia, Northern Delaware, New York and New Jersey.

According to the company’s Facebook page, Omnivent “can guarantee a unique and creative look into the atmosphere you are looking to create,” and is “well-schooled in the art of creating an atmosphere or vibe for any occasion.”
