Comcast has started a trial program to offer electricity as part of its Xfinity service bundles for Pennsylvania customers.
Comcast currently offers phone, cable and internet package deals, but through a deal with NRG Energy will now add electricity to those bundle deals.
Electricity to Comcast customers currently is limited to Pittsburgh-area residents who currently are customers of Duquesne Power, but the offerings may spread depending on the success of the program.
And Comcast is pushing the program heavily: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Duquesne Power customers who switch to Xfinity are being offered monetary enrollment bonuses, free premium channels and even free smart home thermostats, depending on the Xfinity bundles they sign up for.
