Will Sheetz Open Earlier Than Planned?

A Sheetz convenience store was slated to open around Thanksgiving but construction is progressing quickly.

So much for Thanksgiving.

But Palmer residents may be giving thanks now that a Sheetz gas station/convenience store may be arriving by the end of the month instead of around late November.

An update was offered on Sheetz at the recent Board of Supervisors meeting as officials said the business and work being done by PennDOT is ahead of schedule.

"They are going to start stocking the place after Labor Day," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said. "The project is substantially complete."

A traffic light is expected to be installed at the corner of Route 248 and Kingston Road by the end of the month, officials said.

And all road work, including curbing and an exit from Sheetz onto Route 248 has been completed.

Strausser Enterprises is developing the Northwood Center, which includes a CVS that opened right after the new year. Strausser officials have said the new Sheetz would be the largest Sheetz convenience store in the Lehigh Valley.

The Sheetz project has stalled for several months as Strausser sought permit approval from the state Department of Transportation.
