The members of the Palmer Township Beautification Project do not just build and maintain the garden along the bike path by Fairview Park. They also enjoy riding and walking along the bike path and streets of Palmer, Bethlehem Township, and north along the Buskill Creek. The bike path is a treasure. The problem with some treasures is they become tarnished. That is why some members have become programed to see detractors to beauty. One member can see a soda can, plastic bottle, or glass container at an incredible distance. Talking to one member the conversation went to the level of real disgust. "You do wear rubber gloves when you pick that stuff up, don't you?" No, actually I do not. I do wash my hands when I get home after placing the assorted items in their proper recycling container or garbage can. That is why skin is dead. It is a layer of protection from the unsanitized world. After three years of picking up over 40 plastic bags containing dog feces, to very small pieces of candy rappers and plastic, I am as healthy and satisfied as ever. The myth stated so often that we can become anything that we want to be, is so sad. Imagine saying that I could beat Larry Holmes in a boxing match. Imagine saying that I could beat Jordan Oliver in a real wresling match because I weight ten pounds more than him. Those statements are ridiculous. Larry could kill me with one punch and Jordan would pin me in less than 20 seconds. What is my point? We all can do reasonable things and hopefully we will learn what those things are that God has blessed us with. We all can help out in many ways. Having beauty and love in the world takes time and effort. It is priceless.
