Five Things to Know for Aug. 6-11

Palmer supers meet, Easton Hospital opens center in Forks and Philadelphia Eagles play first pre-season game.

They begin to call this the "Dog Days of Summer."

With professional football making its debut Thursday night and the Philadelphia Phillies season practically over, it's time to start thinking about the pigskin as fall inches closer.

So here is the latest addition of showcasing what's to come during the first full week of August.

Our weekly feature every Monday takes a look at what's ahead of us for the week. Now that the weekend is in our rear-view mirror, we can get ready for news and information that might make your week a little lighter and brighter.

1. The Palmer Township Board of Supervisors meets Monday. Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver is expected back from vacation. The meeting is 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Palmer library. To see the agenda, visit the township's website.

2. Easton Hospital is expected to open its new health and wellness center at the new complex in Forks Township on Monday.

3. The will play their first exhibition game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night. The team has spent the past few weeks in training camp at Lehigh University. It is unknown whether Coach will be at the helm in the wake of his son's death.

4. The Forks Township Parks and Recreation Department will hold another movie night Friday. "The Smurfs" will show at dusk at the amphitheater at Forks Community Park.

5. On a personal note, my sister, Desiree Kratzer of Forks Township, celebrates her birthday on Wednesday. She's still three years younger than I am. Happy Birthday Sis!!
