There was a song back in the mid-'80s that was pretty catchy. It was one of those one-hit wonders and sung by a group called Timbuk 3.
"The Future is So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades."
Catchy tune and certainly one that you could sing in Forks Township.
The future of Forks Township is a big topic these days throughout town. Seems like everyone is discussing it in some fashion.
So what's the future for the "Cottage in the Woods?" What should be done with the building next door? What will happen to the Braden Airport? What's going into the Park Plaza at Sullivan Trail?
The Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township will hold a roundtable Tuesday in which the township's business future will be discussed.
And the Forks Township Board of Supervisors is talking about putting out a township-wide survey of what residents want for the future.
Everyone seems to want to know. And everyone seems to have an opinion.
Right now, Forks Township has a perfect mix of residential, commercial and industrial. There's plenty of land and plenty of farmland.
The Park Plaza at Sullivan Trail can be the perfect shot in the arm, depending on what new businesses are added to the center.
No one wants Sullivan Trail to turn into a Las Vegas with bright neon lights. And no one wants to see it clogged with traffic on a constant basis any more than it already is.
But Forks Township isn't a destination place. People mainly go elsewhere to neighboring Palmer and Lower Nazareth townships for most of their retail spending.
It would be great for Forks residents to spend their dollars here.
So it will be interesting to see what everyone wants for Forks and the response to those requests.
Careful consideration must be taken. After all, this is our future too.
