I-78 East Open After Crash

I-78 from Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown to Route 100 in Upper Macungie is closed due to a tractor trailer accident this morning.

UPDATE: PennDOT reports I-78 in both directions are now open and regular speed limits have been restored.

Penn DOT reports that I-78 east is closed due to a tractor trailer crash.

I-78 east traffic is being detoured off Exit 49 onto PA 100 south and US 222/Fred Jaindl Memorial Highway north.

I-78 west was reduced to one lane, but now all lanes are open.

A tractor trailer had crashed through the median on I-78 East at exit 51, but the truck has been removed, according to The Express-Times.

PennDOT traffic cams now show little traffic westbound.

Expect delays and use extreme caution driving through the area. Emergency services are on scene working to remove the damaged tractor trailer.

No estimate on when the crash will be clear.

Reduced Speed

Due to the winter storm, PennDOT has reduced the speed limit on I-78, I-81 and US 22 to 45 MPH.
