Route 22 Bridge Could Take Nearly Two Years

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission seeks public comment on bridge project.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is giving the public an extra week to weigh in on its Route 22 bridge repairs, a project that could last near two years.

Beginning in June 2013, the commission will begin work on a roughly 3,000-foot stretch of Route 22 that includes the bridge and part of the surrounding highway. The project is funded by toll revenues.

The roughly $30 million upgrade is expected to take about 20 months.

For most of that time, traffic on the bridge will be affected, and the commission says it hopes to avoid shutting down the bridge.

The DRJTBC has a complete breakdown of the project on its website.
