A major winter storm that was expected to rip the Northeast and New England Friday night into Saturday may not pack such a wallop in Palmer and Forks townships.
The National Weather Service scaled down snow accumulations to 3-5 inches after initial reports suggested 6-10 inches of snow.

Forks Township Police Chief Greg Dorney issued a storm emergency until noon Saturday.
Snow emergencies, which are usually declared by a town's high-ranking official such as a police chief, let the public know to be aware of hazardous road conditions and municipal crews trying to clear and maintain roads.
