TELL US: How Do You Go Green?

Share your best tips and tricks for living the green life here in the Lehigh Valley.

Earth Day on April 22 was a great reminder to be environmentally conscious.

But now that it's over, we're looking for all the great ways Lehigh Valley residents continue to work to preserve and protect the Earth.

From composting to creative recycling, we want to hear what you do to minimize your carbon footprint, reduce waste, and just live a greener lifestyle. Please tell us in the comments below or upload a picture!

There are still events happening in the area.

* The Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council will hold  its first Earth Day Event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 18, at Lindberg Park. There will be presentations on Healthy Lawn Maintenance, Recycling, Bird Town and Composting. Waste Management's recycling robot, Cycler, also will be there. For more information contact Salisbury Township at 610-797-4000.

I hold my breath every once in a while. Did you know the average human emits approximately 288 liters or 565.36 grams of CO2 per day through respiration. After the conversion (I assure you it’s correct as I'm an engineer on the side), that equates to 1.257 lbs / day or 0.00087 lb per minute of carbon dioxide per person. There are approximately 6.6 billion people on the earth...do you see where I’m going with this...if they all held their breath for one minute, that would equate to 5,742,000 lbs or 2,871 tons of CO2 per minute. So instead of expending more CO2 by running around your house raising your respiration rate while turning off your lights, just hold your breath for an hour. Imagine what that will do for the environment and global warming. Now, if we could just get the cows to stop burping methane, we'd really be in business. I see a future Wiggy's Words of Wisdom coming out of this one...LOL
