Philadelphia Eagles Skinned in Washington

Philadelphia Eagles lose sixth-straight game to fall to 3-7.

Nick Foles wasn't the savior.

The Philadelphia Eagles didn't beat the Washington Redskins to save the season.

Instead, two field goals were all the offense the Birds could muster as they fell to the Washington Redskins 31-6 for their sixth-straight loss.

Redskins rookie Quarterback Robert Griffin III was dazzling at times running the football, looking like a young Michael Vick in how he avoided sackers and tacklers. And Griffin showed off his cannon of an arm, tossing two long balls among his four touchdown passes.

Once again, the Eagles defense continued to slide. And Foles, making his first NFL start, had a shaky performance. It didn't help when a ball bounced off tight end Brett Celek into the Redskins hands for an INT. Foles tossed another interception shortly thereafter. Foles threw over 45 times and only had a little over 200 yards.

Meanwhile, Griffin threw 14 times, completed 13 and had four touchdowns.

Wideouts DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin were non-existent in the game plan and Celek had trouble catching the football once again.

Running back LeSean McCoy never got going and then left the game late with a head injury.

The defense got burned by the long ball. The best was a 60-year desperation pass by RGIII that found its way into the hands of Santana Moss despite two defenders pretty much wrapped about his waist.

It's really hard to watch this football team. Nothing is going right and nothing looks like it's getting fixed. Changes are needed – and needed badly. Sunday's game was another all-time low. It keeps getting worse.

Six games are left. For Philly fans, that's way too much suffering.

I have read the 30+ comments before mine. I don't think many are on target. The fault for the Eagles' is Jeff Lurie's. Reid has won a lot of games and division championships, but his west coast offense has been proven wrong now for years. His coaching personnel selections have proven wrong too. His lack of development of a sustainable running game has proven wrong. His selection of Vick has proven wrong. His trying to make Vick, a scrambling q'back, into a stationary passer has turned Vic into a tackling dummy. Maybe it payback for Vick's evil deeds, but is not good football. A leader recognizes a follower's strengths and exploits those assets rather than trying to refit the asset into a different mold. Reid's strategy has failed year after year with this season being the deep slide into the abyss. Who should have stopped it? Jeff Laurie has the desk where the buck stops. Let's not scapegoat the staff when the CEO fails to make the changes necessary to have a winning management team.It is time to rebuild the Eagles from the ground up. I'd rather watch us lose as we rebuild than lose with the prevailing myth that things will get better over time with the team and coaches we have. Starting over worked for the auto industry and it can work for the Eagles. Come on Jeff, get it done. End the season with a new crew in place.
KJB November 20, 2012 at 02:53 pm
MV has never apologized for his heartless and cruel behavior toward the dogs nor has he given one red cent to ANY animal shelter, INCLUDING the shelters that are rehabilitating his former fighting dogs. The man is a psychotic dirt bag.
Eric Harding November 20, 2012 at 03:53 pm
You are on point M Brigg! I agree with you... the haters that have replied to your comment are clueless and spewing nonsense.
Let's take KJB's comment for example. KJB has to be MV7's accountant because they know first hand what he has done with his money. And that isn't even the kicker. KJB must be sheltered, because MV7 has made MANY appearances with shelters and lead volunteer efforts with them as well. He also speaks publicly about his time dog fighting and is a strong advocate against it. It just goes to show you that people don't believe in rehabilitation at all. And once a person is known as one thing, they can never lose that stigmata. Good job America, be proud of who you are.

FORGIVENESS is a part of Godly living. If we can welcome those who have taken HUMAN lives (like some who were DUI's, outright murderers, etc.) back into society after their punishments (sometimes lack thereof) without bashing them, surely we should be able to do the same for someone like Michael Vick who was responsible (directly and/or indirectly) for taking the lives of dogs. (I am NOT a dog hater!) Once a person has done the time for the crime, that should be the END of that person being the victim of other types of negative activity levied against him/her. I am certain that none of us have lived a life that is sin free. "For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." That being the case, I am sure that no one wants to be constantly reminded of all that he/she has done wrong in the past, whether the wrongdoings were MAJOR or MINOR. Also, none of us are really qualified to serve as Michael Vick's current moral judges, as that is left to a HIgher Authority. Since we are not that AUTHORITY, how can any of us really claim to know whether his actions are sincere, insincere or indifferent? We should be so busy improving our ownselves, that we have no time to bash the character of others. Since this is about discussing football, let me finally move on to that. I, too, am disappointed with the Eagles' current status. I am in agreement with Richard Weisgrau; Jeff Laurie does need to do some immediate "teamcleaning" THIS season, starting with the coach! Enough said.

By your reasoning Maxcine, Jerry Sandusky should be allowed to coach pee wee football again, if he gets out of prison. Afterall, he did his time too. Vick participated in slamming a dog repeatedly to the ground until it died an agonizing death. A necropsy on the dog verified his account. He is a sociopath and they can not be made to feel empathy or compassion. I volunteer in animal rescue and foster dogs and puppies. Because of him and people like him, we now have dangerous dog acts that ban pitbulls. They are the first dogs killed in shelters and most apartment complexes won't rent to you, if you have one. He never once apologised to the damage he caused to those animals and has yet to make restitution to the suriving dogs. There is no difference between animal and human abuse, one is likely to abuse both.
Morgan King November 21, 2012 at 05:05 am
Conflating human legal sentences - like prison terms - with an obligation towards divine forgiveness is an extremely slippery slope. Also, we can forgive someone, culturally, without continuing to reward them financially.
Eric Harding November 21, 2012 at 02:53 pm
Letting Jerry Sandusky coach peewee football again is not the same as letting Mike Vick play football again. The equal statement would be "Allowing Jerry Sandusky to coach peewee is the same as Mike Vick being able to own many Pit Bulls again." You are not comparing apples to apples here. Also, where in the hell do you people get these reports that MV7 has never apologized or made restitution? Do you just ignore the stories on him where he is volunteering at shelters and speaking out against animal abuse. Also, he was court ordered to make restitution. And you are right, because of his actions we have idiotic people running around screaming their pretty little heads off about one breed. Just like the Dobermans and the German Shepard... it is never going to end. There are too many people who want to ruin the lives of others. Take a look at the Westboro Baptist Church for an example.
matt November 21, 2012 at 03:10 pm
I've seen players that have actually killed HUMANS get much better treatment than Vick. Leave the guy alone, he's just a unintelligent football player.

These are demons that don't even understand the word forgiveness, They are satanic and evil and its shows. They make me wonder is it the dogs or just him. So sad to watch what they teach their children.
Maxcine Collier November 21, 2012 at 04:12 pm
Kathleen and Eric, Jerry Sandusky, as far as I know will DESERVINGLY spend the REST of his life where he belongs -- in prison. There is NO WAY that taking the lives of dogs can be equated to taking the lives of dozens of boys sexually and emotionally, as Jerry Sandusky did. My point is that SOME people have welcomed murderers (such as those who are involved in killing as a resort of a DUI) of HUMANS back into society without expressing verbal hatred, and yet harbor so much malice against Michael Vick for killing dogs after he has served the "time for his crime". (Let me repeat; I am not a dog hater!) Also, FORGIVENESS is different from ACCEPTANCE. I am personally aware of friends and family members who have forgiven the murderer of their children, in order to be able to move on emotionally themselves. Yes, I have even had to forgive those who have committed crimes against me, in order to not be eaten up emotionally. That does not mean that I sanction what was done. It just means that I had to stop harboring HATRED against the perpetrator, in order to be freed emotionally. That's the type of FORGIVENESS that I am talking about -- which does not mean sanctioning of (or agreement with) the wrongdoing or crime. Wow! This is certainly a long way from the topic of our EAGLES and their sad loss on Sunday. I agree with so many other fans that an immediate change is needed, in order for the team to be successful for the rest of the season. I do not sanction or accept the status quo.

It's amazing how people are so quick to render judgement of others without truly knowing and comprehending the logistics of things that happen in the world. Yes, Michael Vick was found guilty for the abuse of dogs. However, he took the fall and did the time to save numerous pro athletes and celebrities from going to jail. I am not condoning his actions because the Almighty is the one and Only true judge. There are other athletes who get away with so much more.
DBrax November 23, 2012 at 10:55 pm
An unintelligent football player? No, just a player whose limited skill set has become diminished over the years. A player whose coach attempted to make him into something he isn't, wasn't, nor will never be. I won't mention playing in an offense that is outdated since defensive linemen and linebackers are quicker, faster, stronger, and smarter than they were in the mid to late 1980s.

To me, part of the problem is the arrogance of some of the players. Mike Shortall June 10, 2013 at 11:53 pm
Anyone who follows the game and this team KNEW they had to play very, very good fundamental baseballRead More and stay very, very healthy to contend. So far neither has happened consistently enough, though there have been flashes of it for short stretches. I worry more about the injury bug right now because it robs the team of those who - in the recent past - have been more consistent (Utley, Ruiz, even Kratz, not so much Doc). That being said, there's still a lot of baseball left and plenty of time to decide whether to be Buyers or Sellers in July. 8 1/2 games out is not a good sign, but it's still too early to selling guys off. And I definitely wouldn't trade a Domonic Brown at this point regardless. They'll need someone to build around if they do decide to sell off eventually.

Funny, when the fightins were winning, Phillies medical staff was taking all of the bows. Now thatRead More they can't keep 9 guys on the field, where are is all of the blame? Can't have the good with the bad, just like the Phoenix Suns medical staff. Taking credit for doing your job and being VERY, VERY LUCKY! As the Fightins age, expect more injuries to occur. Maybe it's time to change the medical staff along with the head guy....nice runs boys, but the end needs to come sooner or later, and maybe next time a bit more humility during your success, and less spotlight, so when challenges like this season come along, you aren't the focus of why nobody is getting better.

Each guy taken in this first Kelly draft serves a purpose, each pick was rated higher than the roundRead More taken Seems each pick has something to prove: I belong here. Although I respect Andy Reid... his time in Philly was well passed due. Our suspicions about hisRead More regimes poor drafting skills have been realized in just one draft .Chip Kelly did an outstanding job in the 2013 draft. I bet Howie Rosenman was taking copious notes watching Chip Kelly fill the Eagles needs with precision and stealth..Andy and Howie were the blind leading the blind during recent drafts. Lurie tried hiding the Howie's draft malstrom with his "it wasnt Howies fault speech" but we are smarter than that. I give Lurie credit for hiring Chip Kelly . he is a breath of fresh air.

The core of this team won a WS....thats all !They deserve every shot to win another. Here's theRead More lowdown as we come into May. The Braves have come back to the pack ,The Phils are one game behind the vaunted Nationals. What have they ever won Zero ...Nada...NOTHING! Phils starting pitching will be fine. Halladay is close to finidng his new zen. Lee has been good Hamels ALWAY starts slow and has pitched well in his last two starts . Kendrick has been good and so has Pettibone.Bullpen neeeds to improve . Utley and Howard will get close to their historical averages .Phils outfield is coming around offensively.Phils bench has been excellent. CHOOCH is back in the lineup. That will make a huge difference in consistent starting pitching. He calls a great game and knows his pitchers. 162 games is a LOOOOONG season. This team will gel and win 90 games and gain a wild card spot . I'll take any bets on that.Any takers from you naysayers?

This is a terrible draft, and the sixers will likely have th 12th pick or so. The only saving graceRead More is that they aren't tied to major contracts, which is great. Analysts and Pundits rank this team at #16 from the 32 MLB teams. GOOD...This team needs to be anRead More underdog. They are #16 because of the perception they wont stay healthy .The biggest concern Halladay. If Halladay doesnt go on extended DL and can pitch 5-6 innings that would be a plus . Kendrick can off set a reduced contribution by Halladay by pitching consistent like he did in the 2nd half of last year. Phillies bullpen needs to prove themselves but make no mistake. This bullpen is light years better than last years slop .Last years group blew 17 games by the All Star break.! The unexpected blossoming of Dom Brown is HUGE. If D. Brown has truly turned the corner the Phillies outfield all of a sudden becomes a strength versus a question mark. Right and Center filed are solid and they can easily platoon left field between Mayberry., Nix and Ruf. The Phillies infield is solid. Howard is 100% and Utley looks rejuvenated and healthy. Young has improved defensively at Third through spring training and is the best pure hitter on the team. Catchers spot is a major strength. Chooch is a top 3 ML catcher who handles the pitching staff well. Kratz is a proven backup with a biig stick and Joseph the Young prospect looks like he will develop into a stud. The bench is solid with Franzen and Galvis. If Charlie uses them frequently he will save the aging infield and keep them healthy for a playoff run. My prediction 90 - 72 and a wild card birth. Maybe another Red October ?
Mike Shortall March 24, 2013 at 02:45 am
They have to be better than last year ... so long as they stay reasonably healthy. One of the weirdRead More twists this year - thanks to realignment between the AL and NL - is a HOME OPENER against Kansas City! Blah ... But can't wait! Our first game in our plan is April 9 vs. the Mutts! Go Phillies!
