Alleged Palmer Police Computer Scammer Denied Bail Reduction

District Judge Jackie Taschner of Palmer said that Charlie Sandt Jr. could still endanger consumers.

He allegedly duped the Palmer Township Police Department out of $24,000 in an alleged computer scam.

Charlie Sandt Jr. also allegedly took about $428 from a Palmer Township resident but didn't deliver a used router the resident had ordered in February.

And then he was arraigned in late March for allegedly taking almost $500 from a Glendon couple for a new computer in September 2011 but not delivering it.

So when Sandt came before District Judge Jackie Taschner in Palmer for a bail reduction hearing Monday afternoon, the judge wasn't offering much sympathy.

Sandt, who waived his preliminary hearing Monday, was denied the bail reduction, Taschner said following Palmer Township's Board of Supervisors meeting Monday night.

Sandt, whose last known address was the 100 block of S. 14th Street in Allentown, remains in Northampton County Prison in lieu of $11,500 bail.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that one of the victimized customers was Palmer police themselves—they gave almost $24,000 to Sandt for new computers in 2009 but never received them, court records say.

A week after the police revelation, charges were filed about the Glendon couple being victimized, saying they "never saw or heard from Charlie Sandt again,” court records said.

Taschner said Monday night that releasing Sandt could endanger consumers in the community because he has three cases pending against him.
