A multi-alarm fire at the RPM recycling plant in Plainfield Township started just before midnight Saturday, according to the Northampton County Communications center.

No injuries were reported, but neighbors heard explosions from the fire, and at times the flames reached 10 feet in the air with plumes of smoke drifting over Wind Gap, according to The Morning Call.

It’s believed the explosions came from small propane tanks brought in as scrap. In 2008 it took crews from 18 stations to control a large fire at the site, the article states, and neighbors who live close by say they are fed up with it.

The fire today was under control before daybreak.
