Kingston Road Detour Begins in Palmer

Road closure expected Friday for construction of Northwood Center. Detour could be up to 45 days, Palmer Township officials say.

Get ready for a major road closure.

Public Safety Director Tom Adams said earlier this week that is expected to be closed starting Friday.

The closure, which could last up to 45 days, will allow construction crews to work on the side of the Northwood Center project where a strip mall, possibly including a bank, will be developed.

A CVS is nearly complete on the Northwood Avenue side of the project and there are also plans for a convenience store, which would be the biggest in the Lehigh Valley.

The detour is supposed to flow traffic around the Northwood Center traffic, with motorists using Kingston to get to Route 248 from Forks Township to turn on Van Buren Road and connect with Route 248 from either Northwood Avenue or follow where it connects with Nightingale Avenue.

Strausser Enterprises is developing the site.

Strausser estimated that there's "very light" traffic making that turn to head to Forks Township, maybe about 1,000 to 1,500 vehicles a day.
