MacBook, IPhone Swiped from Easton Area High School
Resident of Children's Home of Easton charged with two thefts from Easton Area High School between October and December.
An 18-year-old resident of the Children’s Home of Easton has admitted to two theft incidents at Easton Area High School on Monday mornings in late October and early December, court records say.
In the first incident, Marcus Long is accused of taking a silver Apple MacBook valued at $1,229 from a custodial maintenance break room and placing it in his backpack. That incident allegedly occurred Oct. 22.
In the second incident, Long is accused of stealing an iPhone, a silver Nintendo DS and a Pokemon DS game, as well as bottles of cologne from the boys locker room. The items allegedly taken in the Dec. 3 incident are valued at $742, the records say.
Criminal complaints in both cases do not specify if Long is a student at the high school.
He was arraigned in both cases Friday by District Judge Jackie Taschner of Palmer Township and released on unsecured bail -- $10,000 in the first case and $5,000 in the second.
Both complaints were filed by Palmer Township Officer Brent Lear (the high school is in Palmer; the Children’s Home is in Wilson).
In the Oct. 22 incident, Lear writes that township Officer Sue Siegfried was told by Grades 11 and 12 principal Michael Koch that he watched surveillance video showing Long leaving the break room with the MacBook in his hand.
He said Long went up a stairwell and later put the MacBook in his backpack. He also said the technology department had “visual evidence” of Long accessing the MacBook in a school bathroom.
A security officer, after watching the video, searched Long and found the MacBook in his backpack.
Long was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property.
Lear writes in the Dec. 3 complaint that he spoke to Grades 9 and 10 principal Jeanette Kassis, who said Long was in her office for allegedly stealing various items from lockers in the boys locker room.
Kassis said a teacher had walked into the locker room and observed Long taking items. Kassis and a security officer – in Kassis’ office -- asked Long if he stole the items on a table in front of him. He said he went into the locker room, stole various items, “but was caught by another teacher.”
The complaint says Long stole various items from six students, who all got their items returned. The items are:
A white iPhone 4 and a black otter case, two sets of white Apple headphones, a silver Ninteendo DS and a Pokemon DS game, AXE spray cologne, Nautica spray cologne, Armani exchange cologne and a power stick spray cologne.
Long was charged with six counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and one count of receiving stolen property.
