19-Year-Old Killed in Bushkill Drive Crash

Michael Powers, 19, of Tatamy was killed when his car hit a building early Friday morning.

Michael Powers, 19, of Shelley Street in Tatamy, was killed in a one-vehicle accident when his car plowed into a commercial building near the intersection of Bushkill Drive and Mitman Road in , officials have confirmed.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. Friday and the roof of the car reportedly needed to be removed to free the driver, who was apparently already dead when they arrived, according to scanner reports.

Apparently, Powers had been missing since Thursday. His mother, Margaret Powers, told The Express-Times that Michael left to buy sneakers in her car Thursday at 8 p.m.

He didn't return.

The car was found on Bushkill Drive at 7 a.m. Friday.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said the Powers died of multiple blunt force trauma at the scene. The death was ruled as an accident, but the investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident is ongoing.

Powers graduated from  in 2010.

His mother said Michael was a 'struggling teenager' trying to get his life together.

She said his news sneakers were found in the car.
