Palmer Police Crack Down on Solicitors

Palmer Township Police Chief Larry Palmer is revoking permits after complaints about solicitors similar to recent ones in Forks Township.

If you're a solicitor, it's best to stay out of Forks and Palmer townships.

Coming on the heels of warnings over door-to-door solicitors in Forks Township, Palmer Police Chief Larry Palmer told the Board of Supervisors Monday night that his department is going to crack down on solicitors as well.

Chief Palmer said that over the past few weeks, solicitors have been peddling their wares around the township.

"Some residents say they have been difficult and intimidating," the chief said.

Palmer said he has revoked and rescinded solicitation permits and put together a proposal to the Board of Supervisors to crack down on those who cause a further nuisance.

"This is pretty much done," Palmer said.

The chief stated that he wanted solicitor Charles Bruno to examine the procedures for any legal issues.

"I want to make sure we're not stomping on anyone's constitutional rights," he said.

Forks police said recently that they have received numerous complaints from residents regarding door-to-door solicitors selling everything from household cleaner to self-help books.
