Meet Palmer's New Police Dog

Palmer Police get new K9 officer, and a new canine patrol unit.

Meet Rio.

The Palmer Township Police Department recently added its third K-9 dog, Rio, a German Shepherd/Malinois mix.

Police Chief Larry Palmer said that Rio spent part of January and all of February bonding with Officer John Billiard prior to attending training in March.

The police department also purchased a Ford Interceptor Utility truck that was decaled and outfitted for the new canine patrol unit.

Meanwhile, Chief Palmer informed the Board of Supervisors that a photo identification card machine and software was purchased.

That will replace the unit used during Community Weekend in August.

He said the new unit will be used to make photo ID badges for all township employees and elected officials.

Township ID cards for all employees was a recommendation by the township's Safety Committee.
