Employee Admits to Theft from Palmer Business

Police say Palmer Township employee admitted stealing 32 brass gummers from machine shop.

An employee of a Palmer Township machine shop and casting plant has admitted stealing 32 brass gummers valued at $3,840 from the company, court records say.

Justin Theodore Slack, 24, of 1451 Iron St., Bethlehem, told police he took the gummers – a kind of punch-cutting tool – on Friday from Unicast Inc. His alleged actions were captured on surveillance video, the records say.

Unicast, at 17 McFadden Road, is a full-service machine shop and polyurethane casting plant, according to its website. It has a standard catalog of replacement parts for the envelope and corrugated box industries.

Palmer Officer Ricky Umstead said in a criminal complaint that he was dispatched to the Unicast facility Sunday morning and talked to the plant manager about ongoing theft of brass by an employee.

The manager said that on Friday, he (the manager) placed a bucket containing 32 brass gummers behind some machines. The bucket was labeled “32.” Each gummer is valued at $120.

He said that during the day, Slack went behind the machines, removed the bucket, put it next to an aisle, and then later went by with a cart and placed the bucket on the cart’s bottom.

The manager said Slack then took the cart to his work station, emptied the bucket’s contents into his backpack, and left for the day. The manager, meanwhile, retrieved the empty bucket from Slack’s work station.

Slack was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property – both level-three felonies.

He was arraigned Monday by District Judge Jackie Taschner of Palmer Township and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Way to go Mr. Slack. In this economy, people are struggling to find work. You had a job and just pissed it all away. Unfortunately it's going to be difficult for this fool to find future work. No will knowingly hire a thief, let alone a convicted felon. We the tax payers will be supporting yet another parasite.
