Palmer Township woman allegedly used vacuum pole to beat her husband over facial hair fight.

The Palmer Township woman charged with beating her husband with a during an argument over his facial hair gave up her right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon.

Joyce M. Speciale-Detweiler, 53, of 1125 Pike St., appeared before District on charges of simple assault and harassment.

Her husband was not present. He and his wife are separated, according to court records.

The records say that on May 6, a Sunday, Palmer police received a 911 hangup for a domestic incident involving a man and a woman. Three officers observed Donald Detweiler outside the residence with visible injuries to his upper torso and neck.

He told police he was struck several times while sitting outside when his wife began to argue about his facial hair style. He told his wife he was going to shave his facial hair later in the day.

She then came outside and struck him with a vacuum pole, the records say. When the pole broke, his wife scratched him and hit him with her hands, he told police, who said he had two open cuts and a torn shirt.

Speciale-Detweiler’s next court date is her formal arraignment, set for Aug. 2 at the county courthouse.

The foregoing arrest information was supplied by District Judge Jacqueline Taschner's office. It does not indicate a conviction.
