Police: Easton Man Assults Wife at Palmer Job

An Easton man allegedly beat his wife at his Palmer Township workplace Tuesday as their 7-year-old son tried to stop him, according to court records.

Timothy Bernaerts, 38, of 1150 Washington St., was charged with simple assault and harassment and jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Toni Bernaerts suffered “severe facial injuries,” and was taken to Easton Hospital for treatment, Palmer Township police said.

The left side of her face had “major swelling” and redness to the point where she had difficulty speaking, Officer John Billiard wrote in his arrest affidavit.

The incident occurred at about 3 p.m. when Mrs. Bernaerts showed up at her husband’s workplace with their three children and a friend to confront him about his involvement with another woman, according to the arrest affidavit.

When Mrs. Bernaerts questioned her husband, he grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face with a closed fist, police said. Bernaerts then allegedly dragged his wife into another room and threw her on the floor before punching her in the face two more times.

The couple’s 7-year-old son kicked his father and yelled at him to stop, the warrant says. Mrs. Bernaerts also yelled at Bernaerts to stop, which he did when other people present at the business pulled him off of her.
