Police: Two-Car Crash at Northampton Crossings Caused by DUI Driver

Police say witnesses to a two-car crash at the Northampton Crossings were able to note the offending vehicle's license plate number and even followed the driver as he fled north on Route 33.

A 19-year-old Altoona man admitted to smoking marijuana before crashing his car into another vehicle at the Northampton Crossings shopping center and then fleeing north on Route 33, according to police.

In addition to marijuana, police say, a blood test showed Keith Lego had multiple medications in his system during the Nov. 7 incident.

Colonial Regional Police was dispatched around 1 p.m. to the Lower Nazareth Township shopping center for a motor vehicle accident.

According to police, the vehicle that allegedly caused the accident left the scene, but witnesses were able to note the license plate number and even followed the vehicle as the driver fled north on Route 33.

State police at Belfast stopped the fleeing driver, later identified as Lego, a short time later.

The driver of the second car, which was badly damaged, was transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries.

During an interview with police, Lego admitted to smoking marijuana before driving.

A blood test showed Lego had marijuana and other medications in his system, according to police.

Lego has been charged with two counts of driving under the influence, two counts of accidents involving death or personal injury, failure to give information and render aid, failure to notify police department of accident, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and several traffic offenses.

Lego has not been arraigned on these charges and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, according to a police press release and court records.
