A Wilson teen has been arrested and charged for his part in the Wilson mugging of a teen for his cigarettes, according to court records.

Jeremy D. Smith, 18, of 1534 Spruce St., is facing multiple felony counts for the June 17 mugging on the 1900 block of Washington Boulevard during which another 18-year-old was assaulted and a shopping bag containing $67 in cigarettes and tea bags was taken.

The victim told Patrolman Frederick J. Lahovski Jr. that he had been assaulted by a group of men who took a shopping bag containing cigarettes and tea bags that he had just bought, according to the arrest affidavit. Lahovski wrote that the victim was bloodied and had a swollen nose.

During the investigation, Lahovski wrote that he interviewed a witness who told him that he saw Smith and another man, identified as Damitry Laws, 18, of 1918 Freemansburg Ave., Wilson, hit the victim and take the shopping bag.

The cigarettes were split among the assailants, police said. Laws was charged within days of the assault.

Smith, like Laws, was charged with three counts of felony robbery, two counts of criminal conspiracy, and one count each of theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault.

Smith was also charged by Easton police in a separate incident with flight to avoid apprehension, a third-degree felony.

On April 11, according to an affidavit filed by Easton Sgt. Joseph Alonzo, Smith ran and fled from the front seat of a car that had been stopped for a traffic violation. The car was being driven without headlights at 8:30 p.m., police said.

The driver identified her passenger as Smith, police said.

As it turned out, Smith was wanted at that time for being in violation of the terms of his juvenile probation since March, police said. Smith had been convicted of felony robbery in juvenile court, police said.

Smith was arraigned early Monday before on-duty District Judge Diane Marakovits of Northampton and committed to Northampton County Prison. Marakovits set bail at $20,000 in the mugging case and $5,000 in the flight case.
