Volunteers Raise the Roof for Mark Werkheiser's Children

Friends, family and volunteers pull together to add an addition to a Palmer Township home for the children of Mark Werkheiser, who was shot to death in March.

Friends and neighbors of Mark Werkheiser, who was shot to death in March, gather in Palmer Township this week to help give his four children a place to live, according to The Express-Times.

, was found shot to death in his bed in Williams Township on March 15. , the mother of their four children, was charged with his killing a few weeks later. Prosecutors in say they will seek the death penalty if they get a first-degree murder conviction.

The Werkheiser children now live with their aunt, Rachelle Altemose, Mark’s sister, in a single-story home in Palmer Township, but soon that house will have a second floor. Altemose, her husband and two of their children have been living with Werkheiser’s twin 16-year-old girls and two boys, 10 and 13.

After a series of fundraisers in Wilson and Easton for the children, $40,000 has been collected, and area businesses donated another $35,000 in materials to be used in the construction and to give everyone a little more space.
