4 Newcomers Seeking Easton School Board Seats

Seven candidates vying for five open school board seats.

A teacher, a prison guard, a chemical engineer and a state driving examiner are all among candidates seeking seats this year on the Easton Area School Board.

May's primary election will see seven candidates—four newcomers, three incumbents—fighting for five open seats on the board.

Baron Vanderburg, who was appointed to the board last year, is seeking election in the district's Region I, which includes Palmer Township and parts of the city of Easton. He is the only candidate from the region, according to voter registration records.

In Region II, incumbent Pat Vulcano, Jr.—who has been on the board for nearly 12 years—is asking voters for another four years.

Joining him on the ballot are first-time candidates Robert Obey, a corrections officer, and Michelle Price, a special education teacher. Both of them, like Vulcano, live on Easton's South Side.

Board member Tim Reilly, who was elected at the time as Vulcano, has chosen not to run again.

Also not seeking re-election is Janet Matthews of Region III.

That leaves incumbent Robert Moskaitis seeking another term, along with two newcomers: Matt Monahon, a chemical engineer from College Hill, and Dominick Buscemi, a drivers license examiner from Martins Creek.

Other than Vanderburg—who is a Democrat—all of the candidates have cross-filed, so they'll appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.
