Brown-Daub Questioned About Parking and Sinkholes

Brown-Daub Fiat, now at the Palmer Park Mall, wants to build a new dealership in Lower Nazareth.

Customers at Palmer Park Mall have the ability to shop for a new outfit and a new car at the same time.

In summer, moved into the mall, bringing Fiats back to the Lehigh valley after a 27-year hiatus.

"It's like an Apple store for cars," said a Fiat specialist at the opening.

But the dealership is looking to build a more traditional lot and got conditional approval from the Lower Nazareth Planning Commission Monday night for a new dealership on Hecktown Road, according to Nazareth Patch.

It will be next to the dealership along Route 33.

August Antol, an engineer with Liberty Engineering Inc. in Allentown, told commissioners that the dealership will be about 12,000 square feet and will include a service bay.

“We’re concerned about the number of spaces for employee parking, customer parking, etc.,” said Lori Seese, Lower Nazareth’s zoning administrator. “We want to know where all of that is on the plan.”

Albert Kortze, the township’s engineer, also had concerns regarding sinkholes that were discovered in the area of the current stormwater basin and how this reflected in the projects landscaping.

Nevertheless, approval was granted on the condition the information Seese and Kortze requested will be provided when the plan goes before the township's Board of Supervisors.

“There’s a lot of information that we didn’t see,” Seese said. “Just make sure it’s all there for the supervisors.”

Zachariah Cobrinik, the planners' vice chairman, told Antol that if any substantial changes are made to the plan, such as the position of the building, then the plan must come back to the commission.

In the mean time, the Palmer Park Mall location has sold dozens of cars since its opening.

The showcase displays two 2012 Fiat 500 cars and is next to Schuylkill Valley Sports.

The price for a two-seater Fiat is about $15,500 (base price).
