Does Forks Township Need Welcome Signs?

Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber and Forks business association officials are looking into Welcome signs for Forks Township.

The Business and Commerce Association of Forks is considering placing Welcome signs in the township that would also include the association's slogan "You're in Good Company."

Alison Miers, vice president of Easton initiatives for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, mentioned that concept at the last meeting.

"It's just a concept we're throwing around," she said. "It's really in its infancy stages. It's something we're working on."

Miers, speaking on behalf of BCAF, said the association was looking into signage costs.

"If it's feasible and we have the funds to do it, the signs give a good first impression when people enter the township," she said. "A lot of towns have them. They are a good landmark to let you know where you are and also good for beautification. It would be nice to have beautiful welcome signs."

Township Supervisor Bob Egolf said the signs would "add a nice touch."

But Egolf said that the signs shouldn't be "obtrusive or gaudy" and that the design, typography and size need to fit the township’s suburban character.

Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said prior supervisors boards discussed getting welcome signs for Forks but "it never got past discussions."

"It would be great," Chuss said. "We talked about it for years. It would give us some recognition and be a nice idea."
